Preparing for a Timely Interview Question

July 10, 2015 Greiner Consulting Group

As part of our ongoing transition coaching, we help prepare clients for in-house interviews. In recent weeks, several clients reported that one of the questions we prep them for came up repeatedly, and we were happy to report that they answered with conviction and confidence.

In-house decision makers often want to explore how one responds when encountering a client who has not accepted your legal advice or guidance. They want to know how you manage demanding and challenging situations, especially given short time frames.

If you struggle with specific anecdotes, try to come up with two main areas of strength that allow you to respond effectively and with authority to clients. Alternatively, you could offer instances where a partner or senior attorney has given you pushback or resistance and be able to tell the story of how you addressed the situation.
