Generally speaking, attorneys are extremely busy at work. Occasionally, a deal ceases to move forward or a case settles or is stayed. How do you make the most of these periods to advance your practice?
Being proactive: (i) reaching out to partners seeking work in areas in which you wish to gain experience and (ii) acquiring as much substantive knowledge, through research and continuing learning resources in a certain practice area or specialty can set you apart from the ‘crowd’ and help establish you as a ‘go to’ associate. These tactics also lead to meaningful relationship building with additional partners in your practice group, and potentially, outside of it.
