If you are thinking about starting a job search in 2016, or want to breathe some new life into your current search, the holiday season can be a great time to regroup, reach out and get ready for a fresh start in the New Year.
It is an ideal time to reconnect with your contacts. People may not be as busy with work; many are in the spirit to grab a drink, coffee or lunch and catch up. Use this to your benefit to strategically meet with people who can give you advice, information or referrals. Never ask directly for a job; if there is an opening and you are a good fit, they will ask for your resume.
The end of the year is also the perfect time to revisit your resume, cover letter, LinkedIn, deal sheet and other relevant materials. Make sure everything is up-to-date and ready to send out at a moment’s notice, when those contacts you are meeting with ask for your materials.
Simply reconnecting with your contacts and putting your materials in ship shape can significantly improve your job search results. It will be 2016 before you know it, so get ready for a great new year at an exciting new job.
