Our big picture message to junior associates is to always be proactive in charting your career. Today the focus is on relationships.
When you are starting out at a new firm, focus on building meaningful relationships. Become friendly with a variety of attorneys in your firm and develop mentoring relationships with senior associates and partners with whom you work and those outside your practice.
Build relationships with your counterparts at clients. Also, continue to nurture and develop relationships with your college and law school alumni. Connect with work colleagues and clients on LinkedIn as appropriate.
Continue to pursue relationships with people that you meet. New and existing relationships will be critical for consistent business development and career transitions. To continue the conversation, we highly recommend Keith Ferrazzi’s book, Never Eat Alone.
