Last week, Greiner Consulting was proud to serve as a co-sponsor of the NYCBA’s Committee on Women in the Legal Profession’s “Power of the Purse,” a powerhouse panel presentation with six women general counsel. These dynamic women shared their stories and insights on how they support and promote women, both inside their own legal teams and outside with women in private practice. The large audience packed the Bar’s Meeting Hall and walked away with invaluable advice from these fearless leaders on how to best build relationships with general counsel, design initiatives and policies that promote gender and ethnic diversity, and how to win business from women (and men) who hold the purse strings. Among their top tips, the general counsel had the following to offer:
Louise Firestone, SVP for Legal Affairs and General Counsel, LVMH: “Getting to know my business is key.”
Rachel Barnett, General Counsel for Travel Zoo: “Get to know the General Counsel as a Person.”
Kimberly Harris, EVP, General Counsel for NBC Universal: “Be very specific, useful and demonstrate your value add.”
Sheila Kearney Davidson, EVP, Chief Legal Officer for New York Life: “Don’t take me out to lunch, make friends with my deputies and team.”
Lauren Dubick, General Counsel and Chief Privacy officer for Magnetic: “Ask me, ‘What do you need help with?”
Anna Maria Vitek, General Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer for, GfK: “Share top-level information on the most salient, trending topics.”
